Test Training
To gain a full motorcycle licence, you will have to complete the following 4 steps:
- A CBT (Compulsory Basic Training). To take this test you must provide a valid provisional driving licence, showing entitlement for category A. The certificate (DL196) is valid for 2 years.
- The Motorcycle Theory Test. This can be done before or after the CBT, but is required before the next steps. The certificate is valid for 2 years. To take this test you must provide a valid provisional driving licence, showing entitlement for category A.
- The Motorcycle Manoevres Test (Module 1). To take this test you must provide a valid provisional driving licence, showing entitlement for category A, CBT Certificate (DL196) and Theory Test Certificate. This must be passed prior to taking Module 2. Note - The certificate for this expires at the same time your theory certificate expires.
- The Motorcycle Road Test (Module 2). To take this test you must provide a valid provisional driving licence, showing entitlement for category A, CBT Certificate (DL196), Theory Test Certificate and Module 1 Pass Certificate.
Our test courses are designed to prepare you for both modules of the test, and to provide you with the skills to ride safely once you have your licence. Regardless of which size bike you are taking the test on, your course will be split into 2 sections:
- Main course, which will prepare you for both module tests, will usually be done as an intensive course over several days, depending on your current skills, and will culminate with the Module 1 test. Most of our Module 1 tests are conducted at Kingswood or taunton
- This course can also be done over a course of several weeks, with half or one day a week, providing sufficient notice is given.
- Module 2 course, done only after successful completion of module 1, usually taken later the same week or the week after the Module 1 is passed, depending on test availability. Module 2 tests are now taken at kingswood or taunton.
The Standard Motorcycle Test (A2) is taken on a motorcycle or scooter of between 121 and 125 cc, which should be capable of a speed of at least 100kph (62mph).If you pass the Standard motorcycle test you will have restrictions for 2 years, please read below.

Can I take my test on my automatic scooter?
Yes you can, but your full licence will be restricted to automatics only.
Can I take my test on my 100cc bike?

Can I ride any bike once I pass my test?
- No, you will be restricted to riding a bike with a maximum power output of 25kw (33bhp) for 2 years after passing your test.
- If you are 21 or more, you can take the Direct Access course to by-pass this restriction.
You can only hold a provisional motorcycle licence if you are at least 17 years old. It entitles you to ride a learner legal motorcycle on the road as a learner with L-plates but you must not carry a pillion passenger or go on a motorway.
Your provisional licence is only valid when you have the DL 196 certificate issued on completion of compulsory basic training (CBT) by an approved training body (ATB).
A CBT certificate obtained on a moped is also valid for motorcycles once the rider has reached the age of 17 years and has the necessary licence.
